Barbara L. Seymour,
J.D., M.B.A.
Background
Barbara Seymour (Of Counsel) earned a Bachelor
of Science in Business Administration from South Carolina State
University, Orangeburg, South Carolina, where she majored in Accounting
and graduated second in her class. She earned her Juris Doctor at
Georgetown University in Washington, D. C., with a concentration
in Taxation; and her Masters in Business Administration at Harvard
University in Cambridge, MA.
Barbara began her legal career as a Tax Attorney
with Texaco Inc., in White Plains, New York in 1979, transferring
later to Houston. She joined Equilon Enterprises (a joint venture
between Texaco and Shell) shortly after its inception in 1998, serving
as Assistant to the CFO and General Counsel and later as Assistant
Corporate Secretary. Barbara achieved a high-level appointment to
the IRS Commissioner’s Advisory Group in 1995 and served a
two year term. She has over 20 years of experience in tax and business
matters.
Practice Area
Barbara’s practice focuses on transactional
tax planning and implementation, tax controversies and appeals,
and other matters involving federal and state and local income,
employment, property and excise taxes including sales, use and gasoline
taxes.
Barbara also advises on corporate and non-profit governance matters.
Professional and Community Involvement
Barbara is a member of the American Bar Association,
Section of Taxation; the National Bar Association, Houston Bar Association
and Houston Lawyers Association. She has served on numerous boards,
including the Houston Area Urban League, Board of Public Trust,
Sandra Organ Dance Company, Making Main Street Happen, Houston Grand
Opera and Sickle Cell Association of the Texas Gulf Coast.
